Brewers End Road Slump in San Diego
The Milwaukee Brewers concluded their National League Division Series with a victory inside Petco Park on Wednesday night, ending a 12-game postseason road losing streak that dated back to 2018. The win secured the series against the San Diego Padres and advanced Milwaukee to the National League Championship Series.
Milwaukee held the Padres to three hits during the clinching game, relying on exceptional defense to secure the result. The Brewers defeated a San Diego team that had won 19 of its last 22 games heading into the playoffs, overcoming a late-season surge from their opponents to claim the series.
Center fielder Garrett Mitchell described the team’s confidence as "quiet" and "subtle," attributing their growth to maturity developed over the past year. Brewers manager Pat Murphy noted that no team has a winning record on the road in the postseason, with the possible exception of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Franchise Milestones and Regular Season Dominance
The playoff victory follows a historic regular season for Milwaukee, which won a franchise-record 103 games. The team topped the majors in total wins and secured its fourth consecutive National League Central crown, establishing themselves as the top seed in the National League.
Game 4 starter Robert Gasser stated that the team is planning to execute a strategy to win two games at home before traveling to Los Angeles for the next round of postseason play. This approach highlights the importance of home-field advantage as the Brewers prepare for the upcoming challenge.
NLCS Showdown Looms
The Brewers will face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS, with games scheduled to be played in Milwaukee this weekend. This matchup serves as a rematch for the NL Championship Series, where the Brewers were swept by the Dodgers a year ago.
The return to Petco Park for the celebration marks a significant shift from the previous year's outcome. The team's ability to close out the series on the road provides a psychological boost as they look to avoid repeating the sweep that occurred in the 2023 NLCS.
