Thursday Night Matchup Rescheduled Due to Weather
Destrehan travels to face undefeated Thibodaux this week for a special Thursday night District 7-5A showdown, according to the St. Charles Herald Guide. The game was originally scheduled for Friday night but was moved up one day due to Tropical Depression Nine.
Both teams enter the contest with perfect records in district play. Destrehan holds a 4-1 overall record, having suffered its only loss to St. Augustine in Week 2. The Tigers have won their past three games and are 2-0 in the district standings.
Thibodaux is also 2-0 in district play and remains unbeaten at 5-0 overall. The Tigers defeated Central Lafourche 56-19 last week and Terrebonne 35-8 two weeks ago.
Coaching Staffs and Program Trajectories
Thibodaux head coach Lowell Narcisse enters his second season with the program. Narcisse, a former St. James passer, led the Tigers to an 8-3 record last season. Thibodaux returned to the playoffs following that campaign before losing in Round 1 to Mandeville.
Destrehan head football coach Marcus Scott acknowledged the progress of his opponent's program. "We’ve certainly seen steady improvement from their program," Scott said, noting Narcisse’s hard work and the team’s undefeated status.
Key Players on Both Sides
Thibodaux quarterback Damien Robertson is a dual-sport athlete who is also a talented baseball player. His background in baseball "speaks to his athleticism," according to Scott. Robertson threw five touchdown passes in a Week 2 win over South Lafourche.
The Tigers' running attack is led by Cemiyan Adams and Braydon Percle. Jacob Terrell serves as the top receiving target and holds a commitment to Nicholls State. Scott described Terrell as a "dynamic playmaker" and highlighted Anzeo Holmes and Carlton Ingram as players with length who can get the ball.
Thibodaux’s offensive line brings back four starters, providing stability for the offense. On defense, Robert Tolbert is a standout cornerback drawing attention from Destrehan’s staff. Scott said Tolbert is "one of the better corners around" and praised Thibodaux’s active defensive line and linebackers.
Destrehan’s Recent Performance
Destrehan recently defeated East St. John 36-0 in their first shutout of the season. Malachi Dabney scored three touchdowns and carried 13 times for 113 yards. Aushai Smith completed 12 of 17 passes for 163 yards, and Jaylan Ash caught five passes for 81 yards.
Destrehan outgained East St. John 308 to 67 in total yardage. Defensive end Avant Carter recorded 3.5 sacks and a quarterback hurry against East St. John.
Scott said of the recent win, "We had a couple of lapses that led to them getting down into scoring position, and we were able to stand up there and get them off the field, which is huge," adding that Carter "had a big night – he’s active and plays fast and aggressive."
Historical Context and District Implications
The upcoming matchup carries weight from last season's results. Destrehan won 49-26 at home in last season’s matchup, clinching the outright district championship for Destrehan.
