Health Ministers Finalize Bilateral Medical Agreement
Egypt and Chad have formalized a new framework for medical cooperation through a memorandum of understanding signed during the Alamein Africa Forum. The agreement establishes expanded collaboration between the Egyptian Drug Authority and the Chadian Ministry of Health, specifically targeting the supply and regulation of medical and biological products.
The signing ceremony took place on Saturday, witnessed by Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, who met with his newly appointed Chadian counterpart, Ahmed Kogri. Also present at the event was Egyptian Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, underscoring the government's focus on institutionalizing health ties between the two nations.
The pact aims to streamline regulatory processes and enhance the availability of pharmaceutical supplies across both countries. By aligning their drug authorities, Egypt and Chad seek to create a more robust infrastructure for managing biological products, a sector critical to public health systems in both regions.
Diplomatic Talks Focus on Regional Security and Directives
During their bilateral meeting, Foreign Ministers Abdelatty and Kogri discussed broader strategic objectives beyond the medical sector. The two diplomats emphasized the importance of executing directives issued by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby.
According to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the ministers highlighted the need to implement joint projects that were finalized during the fourth session of the Egyptian-Chadian Joint Committee. These directives form the basis for current diplomatic efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and address shared regional challenges.
Ambassador Nader Zaki, spokesperson for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, confirmed that Abdelatty congratulated Kogri on his recent appointment as Chad’s top diplomat during their discussions. The exchange marked the first official engagement between the two foreign ministers since Kogri assumed his new role.
Coordination on African Stability and Development
The diplomatic dialogue extended to continental issues, with both ministers exchanging views on advancing peace, security, and development across the African continent. They agreed to deepen coordination at both bilateral and multilateral levels to support regional stability.
The talks occurred on the sidelines of the Alamein Africa Forum, a platform designed to foster economic and political integration among African nations. The forum has served as a venue for Egypt to host high-level discussions with leaders from across the continent, focusing on infrastructure, security, and diplomatic cooperation.
By signing the medical agreement and reinforcing diplomatic channels, Egypt and Chad are signaling a commitment to practical cooperation in key sectors. The move aligns with broader Egyptian efforts to expand its influence and partnerships within Central Africa through tangible joint initiatives.
