Pledges for Equitable Development and Citizen-Led Budgeting
\n\nUsman Shehu Bawa, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for Kaduna State, has committed to ensuring the equitable distribution of resources across all three senatorial zones in the state if elected in 2027. Bawa, widely known as Shehu ABG, made these pledges during a town hall meeting with PDP stakeholders held in Zaria over the weekend.
\n\nAlongside resource allocation, Bawa pledged to implement a \"bottom-up\" approach to governance. He stated that this model would ensure citizens' needs and priorities directly guide the preparation and implementation of the state budget. The candidate emphasized that his administration would prioritize people-centered policies, giving residents a decisive voice in determining government programs and projects.
\n\nBawa attended the Zaria meeting alongside his running mate, Amos Adamu Gandu. During the event, he outlined that his proposed administrative framework would ensure government policies and infrastructure projects reflect actual community needs rather than priorities imposed by the central government.
\n\nThe candidate also called for a government built on fairness, accountability, and respect for the rule of law. He urged residents to support the PDP in the forthcoming election, presenting these commitments as core tenets of his campaign platform.
\n\nStakeholder Engagement and Party Leadership Remarks
\n\nThe town hall meeting in Kaduna North Senatorial Zone drew a diverse group of attendees. According to Bawa’s spokesperson, Yusuf Idris, the gathering included religious leaders, student groups, women and youth organizations, Community Development Associations, party officials, and candidates contesting various positions on the PDP platform.
\n\nAlhaji Danbaba SayaSaya, the Kaduna North Senatorial Zone Chairman for the PDP, addressed the attendees during the event. He urged PDP candidates to take their campaign messages directly to voters and clearly explain how their manifestos would address specific challenges faced by residents.
\n\nSayaSaya expressed optimism regarding the party’s electoral prospects in the region. He stated that there was \"light at the end of the tunnel\" for the PDP, signaling confidence in the party's ability to mobilize support ahead of the 2027 polls.
\n\nEdward Percy Marsha, the State PDP Chairman, also spoke to the crowd. He urged residents not to be deceived again, arguing that they had previously experienced tangible differences between PDP-led governance and administrations led by other political parties in delivering democratic dividends.
\n\nCommunity Support for Manifesto Proposals
\n\nRepresentatives from various community groups present at the Zaria meeting expressed support for Bawa’s candidacy. Religious leaders, student representatives, members of community development associations, and delegates from women and youth organizations welcomed the manifesto presented during the town hall.
\n\nThe event served as part of the PDP's intensified mobilization efforts ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Kaduna State. The party is currently engaging stakeholders across the state to consolidate support for its gubernatorial ticket.
