Must-Sit Wide Receivers for Week 5
\nFantasy football managers are advised to sit eight wide receivers during Week 5, according to a Sports Illustrated analysis. The recommendations highlight players facing difficult matchups or dealing with unsustainable usage patterns.
\nNew Orleans Saints wide receiver DeVaughn Vele is among the recommended sits. Vele recorded a first down in the fourth quarter against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026. Despite that play, his fantasy outlook has shifted due to team statistics.
\nSaints quarterback Derek Carr has targeted wide receivers 45 times per game over the first four weeks of the season. Sports Illustrated projects Vele's target share, currently averaging 7.3 per game, to decline as this passing volume normalizes.
\nVele faces a challenging matchup against the Minnesota Vikings defense in Week 5. The Vikings rank first in points allowed and third in third-down percentage. They also allow fewer than 200 passing yards per game.
\nVolume Concerns for Other Receivers
\nJakobi Meyers is listed as a must-sit due to concerning volume metrics. Meyers averages 3.8 targets per game and has scored two total touchdowns. His fantasy relevancy has been tied to those scores, but the Philadelphia Eagles' defense remains a top-half coverage unit.
\nEmeka Egbuka of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is also recommended for the bench. The Bucs' quarterback Jalon Daniels utilized a short-passing game plan against the Saints. This strategy resulted in an average depth of target of just 3.9 yards, limiting Egbuka's upside.
\nChris Godwin, Egbuka's teammate, can also be sat. Between the two Buccaneers receivers, Egbuka is considered to have the worse setting for Week 5.
\nMatchup and Statistical Struggles
\nWan'Dale Robinson of the New York Giants faces a tough test against Houston Texans cornerback Jalen Pitre. Pitre ranks 10th in PFF Coverage Grade, making him a difficult opponent for Robinson.
\nCourtland Sutton of the Denver Broncos is another must-sit. His connection with quarterback Bo Nix has been described as lost. Sutton averages 5.3 targets and 2.3 receptions per game.
\nKalif Raymond of the Detroit Lions recorded only two targets for six yards in Week 4. He also ran six fewer routes than he did in the previous week, indicating a reduced role in the offense.
\nKhalil Shakir of the Buffalo Bills faces a brutal matchup against Los Angeles Rams slot cornerback Quentin Lake. Lake ranks first in PFF Coverage
