Trump Details Diesel Supply Agreement With Russia

US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he had reached an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin for Moscow to supply millions of tonnes of diesel to the United States and global markets. The announcement was made via a post on Trump’s Truth Social platform, where he described the outcome of a telephone discussion with the Russian leader as "highly successful."

According to the US President, Russia agreed to begin supplying diesel immediately, with additional shipments scheduled for November and subsequent deliveries in later stages. Trump outlined specific quantities for the proposed arrangement, stating that Russia would immediately supply more than 300,000 tonnes of diesel to American and global markets.

The president further detailed the timeline for the remaining supplies. Another 500,000 tonnes would be supplied during November, followed by an additional one million tonnes immediately thereafter. Trump said Russia would subsequently deliver another three million tonnes of diesel, contingent upon the condition of its refining facilities. The quantities outlined by Trump amount to more than 4.8 million tonnes of diesel across the different stages of the proposed arrangement.

Strait of Hormuz and Energy Policy Claims

Trump linked the Russian diesel agreement to what he described as American control over the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important maritime passage for international energy shipments. He asserted that the combination of this control and the new energy announcement would drive down costs significantly.

"Between our TOTAL CONTROL of the Strait of Hormuz, and this great announcement on Russian Energy, Diesel Prices for Americans and, indeed, the World, will be COMING DOWN, IN RECORD NUMBERS, AND FAST!" Trump wrote in his post.

The US President placed particular emphasis on the impact of fuel prices on American agriculture and transportation. He stated that "Lower prices for Americans, especially our Great Farmers, Ranchers, and Truckers, is my Greatest Priority." Trump described the agreement as a significant development in his administration's energy policy, adding, "This is a very big and important announcement."

Geopolitical Context and Iranian Nuclear Stance

In the same statement regarding the diesel deal, Trump reiterated his position on Iran's nuclear programme. He stated, "Additionally, it must be understood, that Iran will not have a Nuclear Weapon!"

The report notes that Trump did not elaborate on whether the Iranian nuclear issue figured in his discussion with Putin or if any understanding concerning Tehran emerged from the conversation.
