A Hakka Song
A distant melody drifts over Hekeng, a village famed for its ancient earthen dwellings, the tulou. It is where the last original Hakka families live amid an exodus of those seeking a more modern environment. Among them stands Zhang Zhouyin, an elderly man worried about the village temple's fate; or his daughter-in-law, Wei Yi, who spends her days guiding visitors through these awe-inspiring structures. And there is young Zhang Weibo, her son, who finds joy in the simplest moments. Hekeng: a place suspended in time, whose songs endure for centuries.
