A Little Piece of Thailand
THAIFJORD is a documentary series that tracks the lives of five Thai women and their husbands living in a secluded fjord in Norway. Across the Norwegian countryside, an increasing number of men are choosing wives from Thailand and other Asian countries. The women who relocate to build a new life quickly become the subject of discriminating opinions. Many Norwegians regard these Thai wives as desperate women escaping poverty and prostitution by marrying men they deem hopeless and sexist. They are believed to inhabit difficult relationships in which they mutually exploit one another, with little love or respect. But how do these men and women view themselves and the choices they have made? What do relationships and marriage mean to them, and can their perspectives illuminate what love really is?
