Aconcagua
The first ascent of Aconcagua's south face, achieved in February 1954 by a French assault team led by René Ferlet, and comprising Lucien Bérardini, Adrien Dagory, Edmond Denis, Pierre Lesueur, Robert Paragot and Guy Poulet. After seven days of arduous climbing, they fought their way off the mountain in a lamentable state; all save Robert Paragot suffered severe frostbite, ultimately necessitating amputations—most notably Lucien 'Lulu' Bérardini, who lost part of his left hand.
