Allegro Barbaro
Zsadányi flees from the authorities with his goddaughter Bankós Mari, taking refuge in the forest. The film then leaps forward thirty-fold years: Zsadányi and Mari are now lovers, their romance halted by the distant roar of war. The old friends of Zsadányi have joined with the Nazis, while the landowner living with his peasants in a socialist commune grows distant from them. Zsadányi is held responsible for the country’s political troubles, and will pay with his life.
