Amazon: Longest River in the World
A documentary by Portuguese filmmaker Silvino Santos that explores the Amazon—its lush flora, diverse fauna, and its inhabitants—through a sequence of evocative early 20th century imagery. The film alternates close-ups of caimans, jaguars, and tropical vegetation with footage of Indigenous rituals, including some of the earliest known moving images of the Witoto people. It also offers extended sequences on the region's extractive industries: rubber, Brazil nut, timber, and fishing, as well as the egret feathers that were a staple of women's fashion at the time.
