Brigitte and I
In an alternate reality, Brigitte Lahaie died of AIDS on December 31, 1982. She is the only woman Richard, the narrator, has ever loved, and after listening to an address by President François Mitterrand, Richard chooses to recount their story. Built from gentle excerpts drawn from around 30 X-rated films of the 1970s, this fictional work follows the arc of an enchanted interlude, from the advent of the pill to the emergence of AIDS, while reflecting on the cultural transformations of the era.
