After more than six years in the making, The Cut is a feature-length documentary that delivers a definitive assertion: female genital mutilation or cutting (FGM) is a native practice found on every inhabitable continent. From war zones in the Middle East to the bucolic landscapes of Middle America, the film visits 14 countries and features pivotal interviews with FGM survivors, activists, cutters, doctors, and researchers to reveal an often secretive practice shrouded in centuries of traditions, mysticism, and irrationalities.
