The mountain ranges known as the Japanese Alps provide a breathtaking setting for our journey through Nagano Prefecture, where the forests are illuminated by the rich hues of late autumn. With numerous peaks reaching 3,000 meters, Nagano is a favorite destination for climbers, and we get a brief introduction to its rugged appeal from a world-class mountain guide. We also meet people who have chosen to make their lives here because of the forests, including a man who left a leading cabinet-making career in Tokyo to create uniquely distinctive furniture from these wild trees, as well as a group of friends who dedicate their free time to caring for the woods.
