Do we still celebrate the folly praised by Erasmus, or has the vogue shifted back toward cleverness? And if so, who is the smartest? Who can recount the medals won at the Olympic Games in London, yet at the same time knows who Captain Haddock is? Who can discern whether Lacan was a hair-growth product or a psychoanalyst and can also program their own digital television? Who experiences déjà vu while leafing through the Encyclopedia Britannica and while reading the interviews with the new Miss Waregem Koerse? Who, truly, is the smartest person in Flanders, Belgium, Europe, and by extension, the world? This question unfolds through a fierce battle between three fellow human beings. Each day, one is eliminated—perhaps not the smartest, but cherished in their family circle for their many other talents. The remaining contestants advance and are joined by a new challenger every day.
