Elephant Whisperer
Sangduen Chailert, known to many as Lek, has rescued more than 200 elephants and has dedicated her life to protecting the Asian elephant by founding The Elephant Nature Park, a sanctuary for their welfare. This documentary follows the Time Magazine Asian Hero of the Year Award recipient in her trailblazing work. Lek pursues a mission to save the Asian elephant in her native Thailand, examining the species’ plight as it shifts from a widely used domestic animal to a burden on modernizing communities. With experts warning that extinction could come within four decades, Lek has mobilized a large base of supporters and volunteers in her quest for a brighter future for the Asian elephant. The film highlights Lek’s natural understanding and rapport with these enormous animals and aims to move viewers by spotlighting the often desperate conditions in which some elephants are kept.
