This narrated found-footage collage assembles fragments from the writings of Antonin Artaud, the French surrealist poet, essayist and philosopher. Fragments of a Journal in Hell surveys and embodies a self under siege, traversing extreme psycho-physical states. Simultaneously, the film honors an improbably joyful artistic practice that persists in forging personal metaphors amid a war-torn struggle between the self and the world.
