Germany's Mystic Forest
Emerald-green, impenetrable forests cloak a landscape of secluded valleys and rugged, jagged ridges. Some 2,000 rivers and streams carve deep pathways underground, carrying their waters to reservoirs or to the Wupper, Germany's Wild Amazon. These forests and rivers, together with heathlands and moors, cradle a rich fauna. Martens, badgers, wild boars, hares, roe deer, red deer and wild boars find shelter here, alongside black grouse and hazel deer. Wolves also maintain a dominant presence, not to mention those who dwell underground, such as lizards, bats, and snakes. Accompany us on a journey as we explore every corner of this rugged land. Descend into the Bergisches Land, traversing the vast hidden cave systems that wind far beneath the forests. There is plenty to discover in the waters as well—dive into crystal-clear streams and rivers where a diverse flora and fauna flourish.
