Guaret

Pedro is Mallorcan, the son of a Burgos-born mother and a father from Mallorca. Because his relationship with his father has always been distant, he never fully masters Mallorquín as a language. He seeks out the writings of Damià Huguet to keep his father close, for only the poet’s verses can fill the void left by his death. The poet’s words carry Pedro back to his childhood and to his roots, even as many terms remain unfamiliar to him, despite belonging to his own language. This becomes the motor of his quest for identity, for origins, for what it means to be a man, for father–son bonds, for a sense of collective identity, and for the notion of "mallorquinness". Pedro continually grapples with the emotions stirred by Huguet’s poetry, and above all with the question of who he is and where he belongs.
