Episode Guide
More than 1500 hand-sculpted clay figures, crafted from historical descriptions of the 18th-century Procession of the Body of God in Lisbon during the reign of D. João V. This ensemble was unveiled to the public for the first time in 1948, and the motives of its promoter, the successful entrepreneur Diamantino Tojal, renowned for his pronounced religiosity, remain only partly known. His neighborhood was Bairro da Graça in Lisbon, and over four years the creation served as an aggregating force for outstanding figures of Lisbon life of that era. A guided tour by Rosa Maria Tojal, Diamantino Tojal's niece, and by art historian António Camões Gouveia.
