I Was Possessed by God

On Valentine's Day, 1993, filmmaker Caveh Zahedi chose to ingest five grams of hallucinogenic mushrooms—a notably large dose. For the first time in his history with psychedelics, he experienced what he describes as divine possession: a higher being inhabited his body, spoke through him in a voice not his own, and bore knowledge he did not possess. He later sought to reproduce that sensation on several occasions. I Was Possessed by God is the documentary record of one such attempt.
