Original pilot TV film. After his wife is murdered by the notorious gangster Joe Webster, Inspector George Gently contemplates retirement. When a Northumberland murder emerges that mirrors Webster's crime, he postpones retirement to take on one last case. Paired with local detective DS John Bacchus, he must pursue Webster while guiding his headstrong young assistant toward the straight and narrow.
