As a committed communist, a courageous resistance fighter, and a deportee, Marie-Claude Vaillant-Couturier stands among the era's most celebrated heroines of the 20th century. Known by the nickname Maïco, she forged a career as a photojournalist and actively championed the class struggle while cultivating a romance with Paul Vaillant-Couturier, a prominent figure of the Popular Front. In World War II, she joined the Resistance and later delivered decisive testimony at Nuremberg.
