Beau Maverick (played by James Garner), father of Bret and Bart, announces that he is getting married. The Maverick brothers soon learn that the nuptials are a calculated arrangement rather than a heartfelt union. The young woman Josephine St. Cloud is being compelled by her father to wed the elder Beau Maverick. The brothers embark on a mission to derail the wedding plans, unaware that Beau Maverick has already devised a plan of his own.
