Monsieur Truffaut Meets Mr. Hitchcock
In 1962, Francois Truffaut proposed to Alfred Hitchcock a long-form dialogue about his craft to be published as a book. He never imagined it would take more than four years for Le Cinéma selon Hitchcock to appear, arriving in 1966. Across France and around the world, Truffaut's interview with Hitchcock grew into a touchstone of film literature. In 1983, three years after Hitchcock's death, Truffaut expanded his now-legendary volume to include a concluding chapter, issuing the Edition définitive. This film traces the genesis of the Hitchbook and sheds light on the unlikely friendship between two utterly different men. At its core are selections from the original sound recordings of the interview, featuring the voices of Alfred Hitchcock, Francois Truffaut, and Helen Scott, recordings never before heard in public.
