In 1992, Kim Bok-dong self-identified as a victim of sexual slavery, the 'comfort women,' during World War II. She sought a formal apology from the Japanese government, which denied responsibility. In 2011, to commemorate the 1000th Wednesday demonstration, the Statue of Peace was installed in front of the Embassy of Japan. The fight with Japan enters a new stage.
