Natalka Poltavka

The saga of Natalka and Petro follows two young lovers who plan to wed, only to face paternal disapproval: Natalka’s father believes Petro isn’t wealthy enough to provide the lifestyle he deems appropriate. Petro departs to earn the fortune required. Five years pass with no word from him, and Natalka, bending to her mother’s wishes, accepts an arranged match offered by an old, though comparatively wealthy, government official.
