Not a Jealous Bone
Invoking a biblical parable of life rising from dry bones, Condit crafts an experimental narrative about an older woman confronting her own mortality after the death of her mother. The bone stands for the promise of youth and hope—a promise fiercely pursued by the young, yet felt most urgently by those who are older. By overturning cultural expectations, Condit renders feminine youth as a mannequin, and seeks genuine humanity in the elder woman, who is reborn by conquering her fear of death.
