Oderbruch

Its rare to come across a series, these days, you can genuinely call "original" German series "Oderbruch", meets that definition. This is a clever mix of crime and supernatural thriller, that starts conventionally enough but then blends in surreal, otherworldly elements. Its a compelling watch, that slowly draws you in. Characters, who on first glance, may appear atypical, damaged or disturbed, are not what they seem. Its the upending of the conventions of presumed normalcy and reality, that makes this series, so addictive. On the downside, what could have been dialled back somewhat, are the, at times, cringe worthy scenes of blood and self mutilation. I appreciate what they are in reference to but it still felt, a little heavy handed. In summary, "Oderbruch" is an intelligent series, that cleverly crafts a tale that steps beyond what you might expect. A recommended watch.
