Oil Rocks: City Above the Sea
"Oil Rocks" hides a monumental reality: the first and largest offshore oil platform ever constructed, a sprawling city in the middle of the Caspian Sea, built under Stalin in 1949. 60 years on, "Oil Rocks" remains operational, and the first Western film crew ever granted access. Imagine 200 kilometers of bridges, thousands of oil workers, hundreds of platforms, buildings up to nine stories tall, a park and a sports field—an oil-rig Atlantis, but real. By weaving archival footage from the Soviet era with exclusive new material, the film traces the story of this timeless place and its inhabitants.
