While on a business assignment in Egypt, Hal Sterling pauses to explore the pyramids with his family. A sudden space-time vortex hurls them into an entirely alien realm. Each episode of Otherworld follows the Sterling family's odyssey through a new, distinct province of this strange world, as they continue their quest to discover a place called Emar and to find a route back to Earth.

Trace, unaware that everyone around him is an android, falls in love with Nova, a young android girl. Nova must assist the Sterlings in slipping into the Forbidden Zone before the Zone Troopers apprehend them. She also faces a heartrending choice: escape with the Sterlings, leaving her family behind, or let the one she loves depart without her.
