At Henry Roscoe High, friendships hang in the balance as Lily navigates between loyal bonds with Ray and Travis and the lure of romance. When Lily pulls away after a near kiss, Travis reins in his affections for Lily, leaving Ray free to pursue Lily with an invitation to a 'special dinner'. The evening's potential turns from tragedy to triumph, yet Lily fears that a kiss could sour her friendship with Ray. She makes it clear that romance will not be in the air for either Travis or Ray, but the two suitors secretly press on in pursuit of Lily's affections. Meanwhile, a rumor about Kim Carlisle cozying up to a ninth grader races through the halls of H.R. High and reaches Principal Waller, who squelches Kim's radio show with some dull 'approved copy'. Kim's unhappiness stirs Robbie, who persuades Waller to reinstate the Carlisle 'You and Hello' back in Cougar Radio.
