Song from the Forest
Twenty-five years ago, American Louis Sarno followed a radio melody into the Central Africa Jungle and never looked back. He amassed more than 1,000 hours of original BaAka music, creating a lasting ethnographic record. Today, he is woven into the BaAka community and raises his pygmy son, Samedi. In fulfillment of a long-held promise, Louis leads Samedi to America. Through this journey, he realizes he no longer belongs to the globalized world, even as globalization penetrates the rainforest. The BaAka depend on Louis for their survival. Father and son return to the jungle’s melodies, yet the question remains: how long will the forest’s songs endure?
