Soviet Hippies

The Western hippie movement, which captivated hundreds of thousands of young people, left a lasting imprint beyond the Iron Curtain. Within the Soviet system, a vivid cadre of artists, musicians, outsiders, wanderers, and other long-haired nonconformists forged their own ecosystem, linking those who cherished peace, love, and freedom for their bodies and souls. More than four decades later, a band of eccentric Estonian hippies embarks on a road trip to Moscow, where the community still gathers annually on June 1 to mark the tragic events of 1971, when thousands of Soviet hippies were arrested by the KGB. Their journey through time and across dimensions plunges into the psychedelic underground milieu where these dreamers pursued autonomy and liberation.
