The Flames of Nule

The film follows Anna, Rosa, and Maria, three weavers from Nule in Sardinia, as they compete in a tapestry contest. While Anna and Rosa strive to win over the judges with flawless, beautifully crafted carpets, Maria astonishes the village by producing an unexpected textile creation. Designer, illustrator, and animator Carolina Melis’ short film Le fiamme di Nule blends animation and live-action footage to bring the story of these three weavers in the Sardinian village of Nule to life. The film was inspired by a visit Melis made to the village, where she became captivated by its traditional textile-making methods.
