The Interpreter
Follow Amjad, a Syrian refugee in the United Kingdom, as he trains to become a community interpreter, returning to the very system that once questioned him. Re-examining his asylum interviews, Amjad navigates the charged dynamics among the interpreter, the displaced, and the authorities. Through meticulously staged reconstructions, the film probes the ethics of neutrality and the interpreter’s dual function as both voice and barrier, where translation becomes an instrument of subversion as well as a conduit of connection.
