The Last Chieftain
The documentary delves into the leadership framework shaping the lives of chiefs, including Rangalu, who was sworn in as the Head of Santiman District, Taiwan. This district comprises 10 villages and hosts a population of about 70,000, most of whom are indigenous Paiwan. The Paiwan people inhabit the mountainous regions of southern Taiwan. Their rich oral traditions and distinctive cultural traits are brought to life in this unique film. Directors Daw-ming Lee and Sakuliu Pavaavalung exchange perspectives on political and economic issues, presenting a thoughtful dialogue on governance and community life.
