The Shaman

Shaman captures a July 16, 1977 shoot at the northern edge of Eurasia, along the Avam River on the Taymyr Peninsula, produced concurrently with the documentary The Winds of the Milky Way. The subject, Nganasan shaman Demnime (1913–1980), was 64 years old at the time. The documentary chronicling Demnime’s incarnation ritual was completed twenty years later. It is the fifth and final installment in Lennart Meri’s Encyclopaedia Cinematographica Gentium Fenno - Uricarum series.
