The Song of Night
Known in Hollywood as Anatole Litvak, he retained the surname Litwak when directing the German musical Das Lied Einer Nacht (The Song of Night). Famed Polish tenor Jan Kiepura headlines as the Italian tenor Ferraro. Fleeing a tyrannical manager, Ferraro swaps identities with a young tourist, Fritz Schulz, and embarks on an unscheduled Swiss holiday. Still traveling incognito, he falls for a winsome mountain girl, Magda Schneider. Yet both his romance and his freedom are jeopardized when the charming young man with whom Ferraro traded identities is revealed to be a notorious swindler. Anatole Litvak also directed the English-language version of Das Lied Einer Nacht, Be Mine Tonight.
