The Student Prince
Tang Wan-tung, the son of a Southeast Asian sultan, studies in Hong Kong with his true identity known only to his guardian, Uncle Mui. Known as the 'student prince', he orchestrates an embassy variety show and invites Lai Tsi-king, whose voice delights, to perform, a choice that jeopardizes her chance to study music abroad. Lai’s parents want her to marry Tung Fook-si, the merchant’s son. Lai petitions Tang to pretend to court her on behalf of her parents, and they are persuaded, though Tung remains skeptical. Tang secretly escorts Lai to perform at the embassy. Her performance earns her a pathway to study overseas, but her parents will not support her. Tang borrows money from his father, but is refused; he pawns his father’s ring to help Lai pay the tuition. Tung then takes his father’s ring and sells it. The father alerts the police. The rings turn out to be a pair. The police suspect Tang of stealing the diamond ring, but Mui reveals the truth. Tang is arrested, and Tang and Lai achieve a happy ending.
