The World God Only Knows

Keima is a renowned bishōjo gamer online, famed for his ability to win over any girl in any bishōjo game, yet he harbors little interest in real girls. By accident, he signs a contract with demoness Elsie to help capture evil spirits that have escaped from Hell and hid inside girls’ hearts, with the only way to force them out being to make the girls fall in love with him. He angrily tells Elsie that he doesn’t like girls and that his capturing abilities only work in games, but learns that breaking the contract would result in their deaths due to magical collars around their necks, so he must comply. His first target is classmate Ayumi Takahara, who is training for the upcoming track-and-field meet. Keima cheers her on at the field every day, displaying banners using Elsie’s magical raiment. While Ayumi is annoyed by his interference, Keima believes she will eventually get used to him and come to like him. After a confrontation with jealous seniors, Ayumi sprains her leg a day before the meet. That night, Keima confronts her and realizes Ayumi faked the injury because the seniors shook her confidence; he consoles her and urges her to believe in herself, which leads her to fall for him. They share a kiss when Ayumi keeps Keima from falling down the stairs, forcing the spirit out of her body and allowing Elsie to capture it. Ayumi wins the meet but loses all memories of Keima, though she blushes when he congratulates her. To his confusion, Elsie then transfers to his school, claiming to be his sister.
