The World God Only Knows II

Following a quick recap of season one, Keima shares theories with Elsie about why the spirits linger around the girls he previously helped, until trouble with bullies arises, and they are rescued by Kusunoki Kasuga, captain of the girls’ karate troupe. When Kusunoki scolds Keima for his feebleness, Elsie’s spirit detector identifies a spirit within Kusunoki. From Elsie’s explanation, Kusunoki is the heir to a lineage of martial arts, which explains her disdain for weakness and cute things and the brutal training that caused many karate club members to quit. Keima then asks Kusunoki to take him on as an apprentice to learn more about her. At first Kusunoki refuses, but she consents, enticed by Keima’s bishōnen appearance. Keima initially struggles to glean anything, until he catches Kusunoki cuddling a cat, revealing her soft spot for cute/fragile things. Humiliated and furious, Kusunoki attempts to boot the cat off the balcony, but a manifestation of her own spirit appears to rescue the animal. Keima realizes that Kusunoki’s inner conflict between masculine and feminine modes causes the spirit within her to reveal its feminine side whenever cute, girly, or delicate things appear. To coax her feminine side into full display through girlish activities, Elsie persuades Kusunoki to go on a date with Keima, much to their mutual embarrassment, and they reluctantly agree.
