With high school graduation behind them and the pressure of real life looming, Leo convinces the group to finish their secret project: The Cricket, a vessel fashioned from scrapyard parts and grounded in theoretical physics. What starts as a rebellious act of suburban escapism becomes a nightmare when a localized power surge tears a hole in the fabric of the cul-de-sac.
