Tradewinds
Tradewinds offers an intimate portrait and examination of CHamoru jazz pianist Patrick Palomo, whose distinctive sound fuses CHamoru lyrics with the textures and improvisations of both contemporary and classic jazz. Although his career spans decades and continues to shape Guam’s music scene, the film explores how his legacy has paved the way for younger artists to follow in his path. Joining forces with rising local talents Shannon McManus, John Glaser, and Andrew Gumataotao, they form the group Tradewinds, delivering music deeply rooted in jazz with CHamoru-language lyrics. Tradewinds highlights the importance of language preservation and probes the definition of indigenous art.
