Treasure Hunters
Treasure Hunters is a reality competition broadcast on NBC and Global that pits ten three-person teams against a sequence of puzzles and challenges in pursuit of a master puzzle and the grand prize. Teams traverse the United States and Europe in search of seven artifacts, which when assembled are said to unlock the key. Find the key, and you find the treasure. The challenges are interwoven with American history, and the ultimate objective is to uncover a hidden treasure, a premise that has drawn comparisons to the film National Treasure. The season finale revealed the treasure's value at $3,000,000. The two-hour premiere aired on June 18, 2006, and starting June 26 the series settled into its regular Monday night slot. The season finale was broadcast live on August 21, 2006. Treasure Hunters follows a format similar in spirit to The Amazing Race, but with notable differences: teams consist of three members rather than two; the start location of each leg is not necessarily the end point of the previous leg; and teams begin each leg at the same time, unlike The Amazing Race's staggered starts based on finishing order.
