In a near-future world where humanity’s energy crisis has been eliminated by the Manifestation Engine, a scientific breakthrough that draws power from the sky, Akane Isshiki lives a quiet life on Izu Oshima with her sister, Momo, and their grandfather, Kenjirou, the engine’s creator. While Akane looks forward to the arrival of her classmate Aoi Futaba, who is heading to nearby Blue Island for medical treatment, she and Momo are startled by an explosion at home. They soon discover that Kenjirou has accidentally transferred his consciousness into an inanimate ferret doll as the result of an experiment. Unfazed by his unusual condition, Kenjirou entrusts Akane with his newest invention, a mysterious key, so she can confront a bizarre alien mech called an Alone, which is attacking Blue Island, the location where the Manifestation Engine is kept.
