Warrior of Light

An immersive feature-length documentary tracing the life of Yvonne Bezerra de Mello, an award-winning artist and human-rights activist renowned for her work with Rio de Janeiro's street children. The film chronicles how she abandoned a life of privilege, spurred into action by the 1993 execution of eight street children by the military police. In the years that follow, Yvonne's relentless efforts to improve the lives of endangered and abandoned youth lead her to establish Projeto Uere (Children of Light), a radical initiative devoted to the protection and education of children who survive on the streets and in the city's slums, a mission that has thrust her into confrontation with Brazil's wealthy elite.
