The first season of this psychological thriller, adapted from a Blake Crouch trilogy and executive produced by M. Night Shyamalan, follows U.S. Secret Service agent Ethan Burke as he awakens from a car crash to find himself trapped in Wayward Pines, Idaho—a town that appears bucolic yet conceals a sinister truth. Escape is literally impossible: no outgoing calls from phones, an electric fence encircling the perimeter, and constant camera surveillance. Residents are instructed not to discuss the past or question the present, and anyone attempting to flee is publicly punished in a ritual known as the reckoning. Plagued by a history of mental illness and hallucinations, Ethan begins to doubt his own sanity as he probes this tight-knit enclave, where fellow agent and former lover Kate Hewson has adopted the facade of a Stepford spouse to survive. Soon Ethan is reunited with his wife Theresa and son Ben, but they, too, are ensnared in a place where nothing is as it seems and trust is in short supply.
