What if We Kept it Between Us?

Rooted in archival footage spanning ballroom, voguing, juke, footwerk, dancehall, and related dance traditions across the African and Black Queer diaspora, What if We Kept it Between Us? juxtaposes the sounds of the electronic duo Drexciya to illuminate a re-centering of Black music genres that have been co-opted. It foregrounds resistance to extraction and frames gatekeeping as a strategy to safeguard and preserve Black music and dance ethnographies.
