Yellowthread Street
Yellowthread Street, a 1990 ITV police procedural developed by Ranald Graham and adapted from William Leonard Marshall's novels, follows a team of Royal Hong Kong Police Force detectives as they tackle Triad-busting cases from the colony's Yellowthread precinct. Although it drew critical praise and solid ratings, the series never quite achieved lasting traction, perhaps due to its exotic setting and its costly production, shot on 35mm film. Conceived in the 1980s and brought to fruition at the turn of that decade, its sensibility and visual tone felt somewhat dated beside contemporary crime dramas like The Bill.
